Duisburg’s largest metal works have been turned into a leisure park, but what happened to the workers?
The documentary (“Change of Shift”) tells the stories of three people who work at the Duisburg Landscape Park or who go there to take their mind off their real work. The final tapping of blast furnace 5 in 1985 signalled the end of production at the Thyssen blast furnace plant in Duisburg Meiderich. Nine years later the “Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park” project was opened by Duisburg’s district council. The 200-hectare site is home to a number of industrial monuments that have been transformed into recreational facilities.
